The Rules of the S.A.V.L.
General Rules (Updated: Sep.18/08)
- Every team must have at least 2 female players on the court when using 6 players. In the event that a team is short-handed, and has only 5 players total, a minimum of 1 female player will be allowed (ie: 4 male players, 1 female player). Teams FORFEIT if they have 4 players or less.
- Teams are allowed to use players from other teams if they are short-handed. However, If it becomes a problem for whatever reason (ie: a team uses replacement players more often than their original roster players), new rules will have to be put in place for next season. So please don't let it become a problem :) Remember it is a competitive, and fun, league.
- Rally point ("ping pong") scoring system (points are awarded each time the ball hits the ground).
- During your pools alloted time limit your team will play 2 sets against the other 3 teams in your pool.
- Sets are played to 25 points. Cap @ 27.
- Matches have a 30 minute time limit. Countdown should be set on the timer located on the net pole of court #1.
- At the end of each match, teams are to mark down their scores on the stage-side scoreboard
- At the end of the night, the team with the best record moves up to the higher pool the next week, the team with the worst record moves down to the lower pool the next week. Check the schedule for pool times and placements.
Gameplay Rules (Updated: Sep.18/08)
- There are no referees. Teams are to keep score themselves and decide on "in or out" and rule violations together. In the event that teams disagree, please re-serve and play the point over again.
- "Let" serves are allowed (if the ball hits the top of the net and goes over on a serve, it is in-play).
- Yes, the ball CAN be played (not served) with the head or feet (but remember...this isn't soccer).
- Blocking or spiking a serve is NOT allowed.
- The ball is out if it hits the ceiling or antennae.
